Freedom for Öcalan Vigil enters 393rd week

The action has been going on for almost 8 years, and continues with new groups of activists taking it over every week.

The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil in front of the Council of Europe building in Strasbourg reached its 393rd week.

Despite the extreme cold, the Vigil is held throughout the day, giving the message that Öcalan will take action until his freedom.

A group of 4 activists from the French cities of Evry and Grigny took over the Vigil from women members of the European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E) Social Committee.

The four activists are Adil Erkek, Ali Çimen, Ferhat Dalmızrak and Koçer Aktar.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Adil Erkek said: "Of course, everyone who takes over the Vigil has concerns. We are worried because we have not heard from the leadership for months and this is very serious. All Kurdish people are concerned."

Underlining that the Kurdish People's Leader is a hope for all humanity, the group spokesman added: "He is a leader with no personal interest. We invite all institutions and all Kurds here."

Pointing out the massacres and threats carried out by the Turkish state, Adil Erkek said: "Now the Turkish state is threatening everyone. But we won't give up."

The activists said they wish that 2020 will bring peace and tranquility to humanity.

Launched on 25 June 2012 in front of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil will continue until Öcalan is liberated.

The action has been going on for almost 8 years, and continues with new groups of activists taking it over every week.
