Freedom for Öcalan Vigil enters 432nd week

The vigil held in front of the Council of Europe demanding freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan has been taken over by a group from Darmstadt.

The Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Vigil in front of the Council of Europe building in Strasbourg, has entered week 432. Mehmet Çoban, Müslüm Kuş, Fevzi Özçelik and Selim Oltan, from Darmstadt, took over the Vigil on Monday.

Making a statement on behalf of the group, Mehmet Çoban said: “Our leader is not here physically, but his thoughts and ideology are here. The thoughts of our leader, who has been a prisoner for 21 years, are endorsed by millions of people around the world. The mentality that brought to the capture of our leader unfortunately is the same that continues to arrest Kurdish politicians today.”

Members of the Darmstadt group saluted the resistance carried out against the arrests and repression of the HDP and emphasized that the just struggle of the Kurdish people against all kinds of attacks and massacres will prevail.

The Vigil demanding the freedom of the Kurdish people's leader was launched on 25 June 2012.
