French Communist Party condemns repression of BDP

Following the latest wave of arrests solidarity statements to the BDP has been coming from different countries. The French Communist Party has condemned what it called "unacceptable repression and contempt of the rights of a people".

These arrests, says the statement "are in addition to thousands of other people - including elected officials - already held for the same political reasons". The statement remarks that French Interior minister Claude Gueant is going to Turkey and in all probability "is expected to sign an agreement to strengthen security cooperation while police authorities in Ankara are trying to silence any challenge to their policy of repression and denial of the Kurdish people".

The French authorities, says the statement "should remind Turkey of its responsibility for freedom and human rights. They themselves must stop hunting down Kurdish refugees on French soil."

Pierre Laurent, national secretary of the Communist Party and Chairman of the Party of European Left (EL), will go on Saturday, October 8, to Place d'Italie, where the European meeting in support of the Kurdish people and their elected representatives is taking place.
