French Left Party: The dictator President Erdogan is scared

The Left Party demands that the French government act directly to ensure that the general elections in May take place with all the necessary guarantees for the proper conduct of public debates and meetings, until the regular counting of the votes.

The French Left Party (Parti de gauche, PG) released a statement condemning the mass detention of artists, trade unionists, academics, journalists and politicians.

“With two weeks to go before the general presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey, the incumbent dictator-President Erdogan is scared,” said the party in a statement published on its website.

The statement pointed out that: “Society is bled dry by purges of all kinds; economic policy is catastrophic and the management of the terrible earthquake that devastated a quarter of Turkey has revealed even more glaringly the corruption and negligence of the Islamist and fascist power to take care of the general interest of the population.”

Noting that more than 150 artists, trade unionists, academics, journalists and politicians were arrested on 24 April in this so-called anti-terrorist operation by the Turkish police regime, the statement added: “This comes a few weeks after the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) declared a ceasefire to allow the elections to take place in a peaceful atmosphere.”

The Left Party demanded that “the French government act directly towards Erdogan and within the Council of Europe (of which Turkey is a member) to ensure that the general elections in May take place with all the necessary guarantees for the proper conduct of public debates and meetings, until the regular counting of the votes.”
