In a written statement, the French CGT (General Workers' Union) rejected the treatment of the murder of three Kurdish activists on 23 December as a "racist" attack.
Pointing out that the attack took place at the time of a meeting at the Kurdish Cultural Center to discuss the preparations for the action to commemorate the 9 January 2013 massacre, the CGT pointed out that Evin Botan (Emine Kara), one of the leaders of the Kurdish women's movement, was targeted.
The CGT questioned the treatment of the murders as a “racist attack” and made the following calls:
“-The 23 December 2022 assassinations should be treated as terrorist attacks and the investigation by the national prosecutor's office specializing in terrorism,
-French secret services' removal of State Secret, which opposes justice, in order to reveal those who ordered the 2013 assassinations,
-Identifying and prosecuting those who gave the order, whatever their level of responsibility, on French soil;
-Granting political refugee status to Kurds who were forced into exile;
-Protecting the Kurdish community's assembly places, not keeping them under surveillance,
-Dissolution of movements advocating hatred, racism and violence, inside or outside of France, and prosecuting their leaders if found guilty of inciting hatred or disrupting public order.”
