From Berlin to Ankara: Put an end to provocations!

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said today that Turkey should avoid provocations, such as gas exploration resuming.

Maas was referring to the gas conflict in the eastern Mediterranean and added that Turkey should be ready for negotiations.

"Ankara must end the interplay between detente and provocation if the government is interested in talks - as it has repeatedly affirmed," Maas said in Berlin before flying to Cyprus and Greece.

Maas also said that Germany stands with its EU partners Cyprus and Greece.

Turkish Foreign Ministry had accused Greece on Monday of "baseless accusations with no standing in international law" regarding Athena's criticism of Ankara's seismic exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Turkish state sent Oruç Reis to the Eastern Mediterranean accompanied by two warships. It is reported that the ship will be in the area from October 12 to October 22.

In a written statement, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the redeploying of the ship poses a "direct threat to peace and security in the region".
