The Hamas Health Ministry announced on the 151st day of the war that the death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 30,631.

According to the statement, 97 people were killed in the last 24 hours, while 72,043 thousand people have been injured since the beginning of the war.

Israel tries to dismantle UNRWA

According to the UN, famine is "almost inevitable" for the 2.2 million Gazans, who make up the vast majority of the population, while humanitarian aid is barely reaching them despite their great need. This catastrophic situation is exacerbated by tensions between the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and Israel, which wants to dismantle the agency. Israel accuses UNRWA of employing "more than 450 terrorists" from Hamas and other organizations in Gaza, and claims that 12 of its employees were involved in the October 7 attack. UNRWA boss Philippe Lazzarini told the UN General Assembly that it would be a "bad idea" to dismantle the agency.

Ceasefire negotiations

Meanwhile, Egyptian, American and Qatari mediators are trying to broker an arrangement that would allow both sides to release hostages held in Gaza in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

According to official statements, the United States, Israel's main backer, is increasingly insisting on a ceasefire in the face of the humanitarian catastrophe the war has caused in the Gaza Strip.

In a meeting on Monday with Benny Gantz, a member of Israel's war cabinet and a key political rival of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, US Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her "deep concern" for Gaza and called on Hamas to "accept the conditions on the table".

Hamas is demanding a full ceasefire, an increase in humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip before any agreement can be reached.

Israel rejects these conditions and says it intends to continue its attacks until Hamas is eliminated.
