German government gives outrageous answers over Maxmur Camp
The German government has said that in Maxmur Refugee Camp "there is no such thing" as an embargo and "aid is continuing," despite the UNCHR had cut aid since 2015.
The German government has said that in Maxmur Refugee Camp "there is no such thing" as an embargo and "aid is continuing," despite the UNCHR had cut aid since 2015.
After the killing in Hewlêr of Osman Köse, a MİT [Turkish Secret Service] official in South Kurdistan, on 17 July 2019, the KDP imposed an embargo on Maxmur Refugee Camp using this murder as a pretext.
In the 9 months since the embargo, nobody is allowed to leave the camp, including serious ill people, pregnant women, students and those working in the surrounding area.
Die Linke had brought the drama of the Maxmur refugees on the agenda of the parliament last February, asking a number of questions to the government.
Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Andreas Michaelis responded on behalf of the government to the questions tabled by deputies Kirsten Tackmann, Zaklin Nastic, Michel Brandt, Heike Hänsel, Andrej Hunko, Ulla Jelpke, Dr. Alexander S. Neu, Eva-Maria Schreiber.
While most of the questions were dismissed by saying: "Our government does not have any information and documents on this issue" or appealing to "state secret", the answers given were outrageous.
Based on the information received by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR), the German Foreign Ministry claimed that the people of Maxmur went to Hewlêr to solve their health problems or school / university education. It was also suggested that the camp residents could travel smoothly to Kirkuk, Sulaymaniah and the district of Ninova.
Contrary to the information given by UNCHR to the German government, hundreds of people with chronic diseases cannot meet their urgent health needs as they cannot leave the camp.
According to ANF research, pregnant women named Fatma Haci Hiseyn, Ezime Ehemed Lewind, Fatma Soro Qutas, Newroz Ehmed Salih have miscarried because of the embargo.
In addition, students Amed Saleh, Newroz Derweş, Sanya Niyazi, Dilşad Simal, Beritan Tok, Mizgin Kazim, Mihemed Ebdulah, Heyat Telif, Hevidar Sediq and Heyat Reşid cannot complete their education at Hewlêr University due to the obstacles posed by the KDP forces.
To the question of why the UNCHR cut the aid to the camp population, the German Foreign Ministry answered that the aid continues by citing the UNCHR as a source.
However, documents related to the UNCHR aid to Maxmur show that this information is incorrect. It turned out that the UN refugee relief organization stopped helping camp residents on 13 August 2015.
