German Left Party: Solidarity with HDP - for a clear stance against the Erdogan regime

The executive committee of DIE LINKE party declared its solidarity with the HDP and demanded a clear position towards the AKP/MHP regime.

The executive committee of the German Left Party DIE LINKE expressed its solidarity with the HDP and demanded a clear position against the Turkish AKP/MHP regime. Arms exports to Turkey must be stopped and economic aid to the Turkish government frozen, said the party in a resolution of the executive party board from the beginning of the week.

The resolution of DIE LINKE Executive Committee of the Party dated June 28, 2021 reads as follows:

“The repression against HDP in Turkey continues. The prohibition lawsuit against them was accepted by the Turkish Constitutional Court last Monday. This threatens the HDP not only with a ban as a party, but also with a five-year political ban on about 500 of its members, as well as the blocking of their bank accounts.

At the same time, the Kobane trial is continuing in Ankara, in which 108 politicians and activists are charged for protesting against the attacks of ISIS on the city of Kobane.

And at the same time, Turkey is continuing its illegal military actions. For weeks, attacks on Southern Kurdistan / Northern Iraq have been taking place. Participants in a peace delegation were kept by the authorities when they arrived on site. Erdogan's extended arm even reached Germany, where participants were prevented from leaving the airport, including Cansu Özdemir, an elected MP.

Writers, journalists, human rights activists and lawyers, people in Turkey are repeatedly on trial and charged with alleged terrorist activities. Among other things, the writer Asli Erdogan is threatened with a new trial. Gönül Örs from Cologne was recently charged in Istanbul for participating in a protest in 2012. The freelance journalist Rusen Takva, who reported on human rights violations by the army in southeastern Turkey, is also affected. Deniz Yücel, Can Dündar or Pinar Selek, besides many well-known names, thousands are affected in Turkey.

The proceedings are accompanied by propaganda and agitation from the highest government circles. The effects of this hate speech were felt in Izmir recently. A comrade of the HDP, Deniz Poyraz, was shot dead in an attack by a Turkish fascist on the HDP office in Izmir. Our condolences go to the relatives, our full solidarity to the comrades of HDP!

As already stated in the decision of the party executive committee of May 15 this year, we demand the release of all political prisoners! We support the demand for the Turkish government to withdraw the application for a ban!

It is time for a new policy in Germany that stands up unambiguous:

- that all arms and armaments exports to Turkey are stopped immediately

- that economic aid to the Turkish government will be frozen, that EU accession negotiations will be frozen, pre-accession aid will be stopped and the EU refugee deal with Turkey ends

- that the military, police and secret service cooperation with Turkey will be stopped

- that Turkish secret service employees are expelled from Germany

- that right-wing Turkish networks such as the Grey Wolves / Ülkücü movement are banned in Germany.
