Gokay Akbulut, a German Die Linke Party Member of Parliament applied to the OPCW to demand that the chemical weapons crimes committed by the Turkish state be investigated.
Despite the calls of the Kurdish people and civil society organizations, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has still not launched an investigation against the Turkish state, which used chemical weapons against HPG and YJA Star guerrillas.
Another initiative asking the OPCW to take action came from the German Die Linke MP Gökay Akbulut.
Sending a letter to Germany's representative in OPCW, Ambassador Thomas Schieb, Federal Assembly Member Gökay Akbulut drew attention to the report of the International Association of Doctors Against the Atomic War (IPPNW) regarding the chemical weapons crimes carried out by the Turkish state and the images of guerrillas affected by chemical weapons.
'Need for an independent investigation'
Underlining the existence of a lot of information and findings regarding the use of chemical weapons by the Turkish state, Gökay Akbulut emphasized that an independent investigation is now essential on this issue. Reminding that Turkey has been a party to the Chemical Weapons Treaty since 1997, the MP said that the addressee organization is therefore OPCW.
In the continuation of his letter, Gökay Akbulut asked the German Ambassador Schieb to demand the OPCW to take action. Akbulut requested Ambassador Thomas Schieb, who was appointed as the OPCW representative of Germany last August, to apply for an investigation into Turkey.
France, England, Germany are among the influential countries in the OPCW. However, like other western countries, Germany has not taken action before the OPCW despite the calls of Kurds, friends and civil society organizations.
