Green Left Party Candidate for Hakkari: My main agenda is the removal of Öcalan's isolation

Green Left Party’s deputy candidate for Hakkari Onur Düşünmez said that in the event of being elected, his main agenda would be the removal of the aggravated isolation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The Green Left Party submitted its parliamentary candidate list for the May 14 polls. Voters will elect 3 deputies in Hakkari. The Green Left Party nominated Vezir Coşkun Parlak, Öznur Partin and Onur Düşünmez in the city.

Lawyer Onur Düşünmez was born on November 16, 1990 in Gever (Yüksekova) district of Hakkari. Having completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Gever, Düşünmez started to study law at Dicle University in Amed (Diyarbakır) in 2012 and graduated in 2016. Düşünmez started his career as a lawyer after his internship in Istanbul. He settled in Gever after 2017 and continued his profession as a lawyer there. In 2019, he became a member of the Hakkari Bar Association Board of Directors. In 2020, he managed the Human Rights Defenders Support Project, a joint project run by the IHD (Human Rights Association) and TİHV (Human Rights Foundation of Turkey), in North Kurdistan. He was a defence lawyer in the Kobanê and JİTEM trials and has served as the co-chair of the Hakkari Branch of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom since 2022. Düşünmez speaks Kurdish, Turkish and intermediate level English.

Speaking to ANF, Düşünmez stated that he would make efforts for the removal of isolation throughout the country. He emphasized that he intended to play a role in changing the state policies and try to develop projects related to unemployment and the state of weariness among young people in Hakkari in particular.
