The women candidates of the Green Left Party in İzmir came together with female agricultural workers in the Menderes district.
As part of their election campaign, the female parliamentary candidates of the Party of Greens and Left Future (Green Left Party) for Izmir province met with agricultural workers collecting rucola in the Menderes district. Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Serpil Kemalbay and the party’s provincial branch co-chair Berna Çelik accompanied the female parliamentary candidates.
In a speech during the visit, Kemalbay stated that women workers did not get paid fairly for their labour and added that her party would promote their demands within the Parliament. She said: "We stand by the oppressed and the working women. We want to fight together and change this system."
'ELECTIONS ARE OF VITAL IMPORTANCE FOR WOMEN'
After the speech, the women candidates introduced themselves and said that they made the visit to listen to what the agricultural worker women went through and what kind of problems they faced. The candidates stressed that the elections were of vital importance for women, adding that the Green Left Party would provide guarantees in favour of all women in Parliament.
The women workers underlined that the system must be changed, saying that they received a daily wage of 300 Turkish Lira (about 15 US dollars), which failed to satisfy their needs due to the economic crisis.
