Güney's wife joins HDP

Fatoş Güney, wife of late Kurdish director, scenarist, novelist and actor Yılmaz Güney, has been elected member of the HDP (People's Democratic Party) Party Assembly during the congress which took place in capital Ankara on 27 October.

Güney spoke to ANF about why she has joined the HDP.

Remarking that the HDP congress had an exciting and hope-inspiring atmosphere, Güney said that; “The congress marked the beginning of a new road and witnessed the presentation of many promising messages and fundamental ingredients for democracy. Turkey has never experienced true democracy so far, which is why I hope it will be advancing on the way to true democracy with the HDP and reach the civilized and contemporary level it deserves”.

Güney remarked that all patriotic, revolutionary and democrat circles and individuals should join the struggle under the umbrella of the HDP.

Asked why she supported the HDP, Fatoş Güney said that she decided to take part in the HDP for it is the only political party close to her political view, adding that she has so far refused all the offers she received for her participation in other political parties.

Güney pointed out that the HDP was a work needed to be supported by the peoples of Turkey, and stressed that the party was grounded on the class struggle and would be defending the rights of all those oppressed, marginalized and excluded so far.

“I decided to take part in the HDP because I have seen that it is a promising initiative which defends the unity of the cultures of all times that have lived on the lands of Anatolia and Mesopotamia up to the present.
