HBDH remembers Armenian genocide, calling for enhanced resistance

We must expand the united struggle to create a life that will allow Kurdish, the language of heart, Turkish, the language of music, and Armenian, the language of pain, to be spoken freely and fraternally," said the HBDH.

In a statement marking the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the People's United Revolutionary Movement (HBDH) Executive Committee called for enhanced resistance against genocides.

The HBDH Executive Committee said that the history of the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic was full of systematic persecution against the peoples and called for the expansion of the united struggle to create a life based on fraternity.

Below is the written statement of the HBDH Executive Committee released on Monday:

“The greatest crime against humanity in history was committed against the Armenian people by the Union and Progress (İttihat Terakki) fascists who sought to create an ever-victorious army and an ever-expanding border. No government in the world or in our country has ever recognized those who demanded freedom and those who called themselves "revolutionaries". Demands have always been responded to with blood and sword. The laws of the world and the lands where we live do not allow peoples to live freely. When this is the case, there is no other way for peoples than to break the laws and their creators.

The Arab, Armenian, Greek, Kurdish, Yazidi and Alevi peoples have been subjected to systematic persecution throughout Ottoman and Turkish history. Many of the Young Turk murderers involved in the Armenian Genocide were among the founders of the Turkish Republic. Mustafa Kemal pursued ethno-nationalism, which the Young Turks failed to complete, in the most ferocious manner. The dreams and cruel plans of creating a homogeneous Turkish nation have prevailed to this day. The AKP-MHP government wants to continue the homogeneous Turkey project with the maxim of one language, one flag, one homeland.

The furious Turkish nationalism and oppression, the foundations of which were laid during the Armenian and Greek Genocides, are currently being practiced against the Kurdish people. This is why Kurdish names and songs, and even democratic demands are not allowed, while the Medya Defence Zones are bombed with chemical weapons every day, and the free lands of Rojava face countless invasion threats and aggression.

The times of earthquake and election should be considered as an opportunity to strengthen the sense and feeling of unity, trust and solidarity among the peoples who seek freedom and justice. One way to do so is to condemn the Armenian Genocide, just like all the massacres that took place, and to hold the dictators who perpetrated it accountable. Unless a relentless struggle is carried out against all forms of Turkish chauvinism and reactionism, there can be no real fraternity and solidarity among peoples.

The AKP-MHP fascism is losing ground. We must advocate for more unity, solidarity and struggle to send the dictators who have been discredited in the eyes of the peoples to the dusty pages of history.

Just like in the aftermath of the earthquake, we must take the election period as an opportunity to tell the people the truth more and to show the ways of struggling together. In order to take fascism’s dirty hands off our people, we must promote the slogan of "unity, struggle, victory" everywhere, and increase the struggle against the AKP-MHP government which has no democratic ambitions.

We must expand the united struggle to create a life that will allow Kurdish, the language of heart, Turkish, the language of music, and Armenian, the language of pain, to be spoken freely and fraternally.
