In an interview to ANF, Peoples Democratic Congress (HDK) Central Executive Board member Ender Ýmrek pointed out that a remarkable opposition network could be generated in Turkey through the meeting of different circles on common targets. Imrek said that the various circles under HDK have achieved a harmony in line with the works performed so far, and implied that the recent HDK decision to become a party will enable other groups to join the HDK in the coming process.
Imrek pointed out that the HDK has a more expansive structure in comparison to common movement performed by Kurdish, leftist and socialist circles to date. Imrek called attention to the importance of these struggles given on the basis of equal rights, peaceful and democratic solution to the Kurdish problem and the brotherhood of peoples and added that;
However, HDK consists of not only leftist and socialist powers, but also all labor and occupational organizations, independent individuals, organizations for ecological struggle, LGBT organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, feminist circles, various belief groups and representatives of many other peoples.
HDK is a new and different experience, underlined Ýmrek and noted that it takes strength from the earlier experiences of common struggles. Imrek remarked that HDK differs from earlier struggles with its continuity and noted that; This structure gives a struggle that aims to create a public movement by gathering and organizing all oppressed and exploited peoples, beliefs, classes and varieties. This struggle isnt bounded with a certain process or time, it is a struggle for constant democracy, labor and peace.
Ýmrek noted that the struggle of HDK will be made up of a resistance which will begin from local administrations and center upon the people and continued as follows;
This is a struggle to ensure the equality of peoples, freedoms of press, thought and organization and a true secular country by resisting against all reactionary, status quo supporter, chauvinistic and racist parties and powers. The HDK party will be an instrument to create a public representation in order to intervene in the coming election processes. The party will eliminate all anti-democratic implementations, dams and obstacles.
As to the HDKs readiness for the goals it has set, Ýmrek said the followings; We are still at the very beginning but we have put the subject of becoming a party on the agenda in the face of the need for a harmony in the coming election process, a determination for struggle, a solution to the Kurdish problem and an alternative public movement. This struggle will stand against the pressures on beliefs, the natures abandonment to profit policies as well as economic and social pressures imposed on the people.
Ýmrek described HDK as a structure making a claim to discuss, question and deal with the unsolved problems of Turkish Republic and summarized HDKs political approach as follows; We aim to gather all powers that raise an objection to Turkeys surrender to imperialist, neoliberal and capitalist policies. We will make headway as a public movement with an aim to expose and question the responsible of all coups, slaughters, executions, tortures and identified murders we have experienced so far. Our purpose is to ensure an effect and development on the basis of popular sovereignty that will touch the entire history regarding our economic, social and political life.
Underlining that all components under HDK will have equal right to speak, Ýmrek pointed out that all individuals and circles within the HDK structure will gather together by protecting their own distinctness and will on the way to a common target. We will correct our deficiencies and hesitation by removing all obstacles before classes, workers and all oppressed powers, remarked Ýmrek and added that HDK will consist of all organizations and circles that stand against dominant powers and have no connection with the deep state.
Imrek continued evaluating the uprisings in the Middle East and added the followings; It is obvious that the developments in the Middle East consist of reactions and objections against dictatorships, status quo and orders of pressure and exploitation. However, these movements arent devoted to an organized, coordinated and determined target. By abusing peoples demands for equality and freedom, imperialist powers want to use them as the reference for the new puppet governments they intend to create. HDK stands against all kinds of interventions in any country in the world and in the Middle East. We defend that peoples can solve their problems by means of their own resistance and willpower with the support of other peoples. We attach importance to policies based on the relations and will of peoples, not those of states.
