HDP co-chair and co-mayors visited MPs on hunger strike in Amed

Solidarity with the Kurdish hunger strike protest demanding the end of the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues growing.

HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Co-chair Sezai Temelli and co-mayors elected in March 31 local elections have visited HDP deputies Dersim Dağ, Tayip Temel and Murat Sarısaç who have been on an indefinite hunger strike against the isolation of Öcalan in the HDP main offices in Amed (Diyarbakır) since March 3.

Speaking during the visit, Co-mayor of Kars, Ayhan Bilgen stated that the local elections would be meaningful by contributing to democracy and social peace in Turkey. He stressed that the hunger strike activists also aim to contribute to the democoracy of Turkey. He said this resistance would cover a distance in the event that the elected co-mayors also serve social peace.

One of the MPs on hunger strike, Tayip Temel, spoke after Bilgen and recalled that Leyla Güven is on 151st day of her fast. He said; “We accept this visit as done to friend Leyla. This visit gives a voice to the demand raised by thousands who have joined the resistance with friend Leyla.”

Noting that Leyla Güven and the prisoners on hunger strike are in critical state of health, Temel put emphasis on the importance of solidarity to make sure that the demands of the activists are met.

Pointing to the March 31 elections, Temel said; “This people have the power to tear down all the darkness. For this reason, the fact that you have been elected by the people, and that this resistance is continuing, is an indication that we are even closer to greater achievements and successes.”
