After a long break, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) held the weekly meeting of the women's group. The Peace Mothers and Saturday Mothers from Ankara, Konya, Muş, Eskisehir, Amed and Istanbul participated in the meeting as well as representatives of several further women organizations.
Criticizing the attacks against writer Ihsan Eliacik and constitutional professor Ibrahim Kaboğlu, HDP co-chair Serpil Kemalbay pointed out that any attack against scholars equals a threat against everybody and society as such.
Remembering once again the victims of the Van Earthquake at its anniversary, Kemalbay stated, "Neither did we forget the pain, nor the solidarity that we witnessed when people were subject to gas attacks".
Drawing attention to the situation of 78-year-old Grandma Sisê Bingöl, who was jailed in Varto in April for “willingly aiding the PKK” and transferred to Tarsus recently, Kemalbay stated that "the unlawful treatment against Grandma Sisê is nothing but torture".
Regarding the health and security of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Kemalbay stated the following:
"The aggravated isolation enforced against Öcalan is a very important topic on our agenda. The news spread on some social media accounts caused the rise of a question mark on Öcalan's current state of health and security. Those, who seemingly attempt to play with Turkey's nerves, have caused huge concerns to the people who follow the thoughts of Öcalan, who is still held in strict isolation. The propaganda spread about Öcalan's health and security conditions in both the West and the Kurdish geography is indicating huge danger. This danger may further escalate the war we already see around us. We say that as to prove Öcalan's health and security conditions, his family, his lawyers and politicians must urgently visit him. We say that the aggravated isolation enforced on him is not only inhuman but meant as a means of warfare. We are calling on the government to act in a responsible manner."
