HDP Co-chair Temelli: We will end the isolation

“Those who hope for attacks against Rojava will once again drag the country into a deadlock. Embracing the will to live together in this country is a step that will bring peace to the Middle East", said HDP Co-chair.

HDP Co-Chair Sezai Temelli met with the people in Muş and made evaluations about the latest developments in the region.

"Today, - said Temelli - DTK co-chair, and HDP Hakkari deputy Leyla Güven entered the 41st day of her hunger strike.

For 41 days now, Leyla Güven with her body, with her ideas, is resisting the fascist mentality, and she is inviting Turkey’s society to social peace. Her resistance is showing us the way. Her firm stance is intended to pave the way of Turkey. Because Turkey is looking for peace. Turkey is looking for ways to get rid of this tyrant power. We will open these ways together. Through resistance and solidarity, we can get rid of this power which is against democracy and peace.”

Temelli made a call to anyone with the desire to live in a democratic republic; “41 days is a very long time, what are you waiting for? Come and support this peace struggle. Listen to Leyla Güven's hunger strike. Let us listen now so we are not late to get rid of this system and open the way to peace.”

Isolation

HDP co-chair also recalled that “the isolation imposed upon Mr. Öcalan is actually being imposed upon peace and democracy in this country. We will end this isolation through our struggle. If we want to live in peace and democracy in our beautiful country, we must put an end to isolation. Because it is the will of citizens living in a country. This is also the call of Mr. Öcalan. Those who impose isolation are those who ignore the will to live together. We say that we will live together in our common homeland. We will build a democratic republic.”

We don’t expect anything from Erdoğan

Temelli added: “Erdoğan says that ‘in this country, they should not wait for a solution’. We also say that we do not expect solutions from Erdoğan. The politics of those who act with you and you yourself have worn out this country. This policy has left nothing to this country. We face violence, oppression, repression. Soon this country will get rid of these policies. A new policy begins. That new policy is sprouted, it is growing. This policy starts from the local and comes to power.”

Speaking about the next local elections, scheduled for 31 March 2019, Temelli said that “just like in 2014, we will achieve a great success. That new politics, new life will come to power in local administrations. This is not just about winning the municipalities. It is taking steps for a great transformation.”

As to Erdoğan’s threats to attack Rojava, Temelli said: “Those who hope for attacks against Rojava will once again drag the country into a deadlock. Let's not fall into these traps of the power. Embracing the will to live together in this country is a step that will bring peace to the Middle East.”

Appeal to Europe

Temelli also called on Europe. “The EU - he said - is based on the Copenhagen criteria. Its relationships are bond by the Copenhagen criteria. Therefore, acting solely in the hope of protecting your economic interests will hit back at you, and this war will be coming to your doorstep. Those who negotiate with Erdoğan think that they are protecting themselves. However, you are closing your eyes to the reality which is affecting the peoples of Syria, Turkey and Europe because it is putting one against the other.”
