HDP councilors replaced by trustees in Bağlar municipality

Several HDP councilors in Bağlar municipality were replaced by trustees and dismissed from their charge.

The Diyarbakır Governorate appointed trustees to replace Zeki Kanay, HDP members Ramazan Özçelik and Nursel Örnek, who had been elected to Bağlar municipality council to represent the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in the 31 March local elections.

Likewise, the Ministry of Interior, using as an excuse previous lawsuits and investigations against them, has dismissed from their charges as HDP councilors Nurettin Bakan, Halime Bayram, Hüsnü Aslan, Mehmet Akdoğan, Panayır Çelik and Naşide Buluttekin Can.

The governor's office appointed six trustees to replace the civil servants working in different institutions in the city.

The HDP had won 30 of the 37 council members in Bağlar Municipality in the March 31 local elections. The Ministry of Interior had first reduced the number of HDP councilors to 24 by appointing trustees. At present, the number of HDP councilors has dropped to 21.
