A delegation of HDP MPs and executives has met with officials from the Council of Europe (CoE) and Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) in Strasbourg.
The HDP delegation that yesterday filed an application to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding the continuing unlawful imprisonment of HDP Co-chairs and deputies in jail, has met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks and cabinet of Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland today.
The meetings were attended by HDP Vice Co-chair Saruhan Oluç, deputies Filiz Kerestecioğlu, Ertuğrul Kürkçü, Mithat Sancar and Osman Baydemir and HDP Council of Europe Representative Faik Yağızay.
Speaking to ANF regarding their meetings, HDP İzmir MP Ertuğrul Kürkçü said they talked about Turkey's breach of domestic and international law precedents with the imprisonment of HDP co-chairs and deputies pending trial.
Kürkçü said this execution was "unfounded" and was also unacceptable with regard to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) judicial opinion.
HDP İzmir MP underlined that the "non-exhaustion of domestic remedies" principle did not apply to the imprisonment of HDP parliamentarians.
Kürkçü said they also pointed out the atmosphere of repression and pressure prevailing in Turkey during the pre-referendum process, and voiced their demand for 'utmost attention' from relevant authorities in this regard.
HDP delegation also told the European officials about the ongoing siege and atrocity in Xerabê Bava village of Nusaybin, and shared details regarding the severe right violations and obstruction of delegates from entering the village. Kürkçü said they laid emphasis on the human rights dimension of this siege more than its political consequences.
HDP MP remarked that their talks received the deserved interest, noting that the struggle for human rights in Turkey would be a determining factor in order for the mentioned problems to be resolved.
HDP Urfa MP Osman Baydemir also called attention to the threat of massacre in Nusaybin, and laid emphasis on the importance of a fair referendum process in Turkey.
HDP delegation later met with CPT officials and called their attention to the ongoing raids, detainments and cases of torture in Turkey.
The delegation also provided detailed information about the situation and isolation of the jailed HDP Deputies, and called for urgent action on this matter.
CPT officials said they are closely following the developments in Turkey informing that they will send a delegation to Turkey in the shortest time possible, but did not give a certain date for this visit.
HDP delegation in response requested the CPT to make this visit before the referendum in April.
