HDP deputy Tosun: Hunger strike and isolation are our priorities

HDP Amed MP Remziye Tosun said that isolation and hunger strikes are the main issues on their agenda and that isolation should be lifted.

HDP Amed MP Remziye Tosun held a press conference at the HDP Amed Provincial Organization building together with families of some of the hunger strikers.

Tosun said: “Leyla Güven is on the 147th day of her resistance, and so are thousands of political prisoners resisting with her. While this hunger strike is continuing, six bodies have been taken out from prisons.”

Tosun added: “Currently, the health condition of the hunger strikers is critical. We have left the elections behind and once again on our agenda the more important issues are isolation and the hunger strike resistance. It is time to act and stop any further death.”

To stop any further death, said Tosun, “the government must act immediately and take a step towards the end of isolation in mrali Prison. This is what the hunger strikers are demanding. It is a legitimate demand.”

Besya Kaymaz, a relative of one of the prisoners on hunger strike said: “I salute all prisoners who are on hunger strike with respect, I bow to the memory of our martyrs. I just went to prison for a visit today. The situation in the prisons is very bad. We do not accept this. Our friends are on hunger strike for 105 days.

My 7 nephews and my child are in prison and all are on hunger strike, in Tarsus, in Diyarbakir. Our children cannot close their hands in a fist, they cannot see. Listen to them! What can mothers do, these deaths must stop immediately.”

Kaymaz called on “civil society organizations to do something. We don't know what we're going to do, but we need to take a step. Thousands of people are on a hunger strike. The condition of the prisons is very bad.

We're so afraid to see more bodies coming out of prison. Let's decide to do something and how to do it. The hunger strikers’ demand is a legitimate one.”
