HDP in Amed stages sit-in to condemn isolation of Öcalan

HDP Amed Provincial Organization and non-governmental organizations held a sit-in protest in Koşuyolu Park against the Imrali isolation.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Amed (Diyarbakir) Provincial Organization and non-governmental organizations made a press statement in front of the Koşuyolu Park Human Rights Monument in Bağlar district to raise concern over the ongoing indefinite-alternating hunger strikes in Turkey’s prisons against the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

HDP Provincial co-chair Zeyat Ceylan, Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists, HDP provincial and district administrators, members of the Association for Solidarity with Families of Prisoners and Convicts (TUAY-DER), and citizens attended the event.

POLICE BLOCKADE

The police blockaded the Human Rights Monument already in the morning hours before the press release. The area was cordoned off by armored and detention vehicles.

HDP Provincial Co-chair Zeyat Ceylan negotiated with the police for a statement. However, the police rejected saying that the press release deals with ‘isolation’.

The demonstrators reacted to the police intervention and held a sit-in protest.
