HDP member jailed for commenting on the rise of USD

HDP Siirt General Provincial Council member İdris İlhan has been jailed with a scandalous verdict.

The Turkish judiciary under AKP control continues to make scandalous decisions.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Siirt General Provincial Council member İdris İlhan was taken into custody during house raids carried out in Siirt on September 25 on the grounds of his social media posts.

Following procedures at the police department, İlhan was referred to court on September 26. He was accused of “opposing the Capital Markets Law” for writing “We are not sinking because Dollar rises, but on the contrary, Dollar rises because we are sinking. Dollar is at 7.15”.

İlhan said his comment was an economic assessment that concerns 80 million people in Turkey.

The court ordered İlhan’s imprisonment, arguing that judicial control measure would not be sufficient. The HDP member has been sent to Siirt E Type Prison.
