HDP MPs Beştaş and Kaya detained during police raids

Turkish police conducted operations against HDP parliamentarians last night.

HDP Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş was detained during a house raid in Amed in the scope of an investigation launched by Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office.

Beştaş was referred to Diyarbakır Courthouse in the morning and she testified for the speeches she held at press briefings during the 6-8 October demonstrations in solidarity with Kobanê and the curfew in Amed's Sur district.

Police also raided the hotel where HDP Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya was staying in Afyon province. Kaya was taken into custody by use of force and she was handcuffed after police surrounded the building with armored vehicles.

The operation was conducted in line with the instruction of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office. Kaya was reportedly taken to İzmir, from where she will be referred to Amed today.

Hüda Kaya had been detained on December 8, 2016 in line with a "forced court appearance" order issued for her.
