Filiz Buluttekin and Cemal Özdemir, the freely and democratically elected HDP co-mayors of Sur Municipality, were detained on Friday on the grounds of the lawsuits filed against them.

Co-mayor Buluttekin was replaced by the District Governor Abdullah Ciftci, who was appointed trustee to take over the city council.
