HDP-run municipality usurped, elected co-mayor jailed in Hakkari

The Turkish regime continues its political genocide operations against the Kurdish people in northern Kurdistan amid its ongoing military offensive seeking to invade North and East Syria.

The AKP-MHP government of Turkey has usurped the municipality of Hakkari which was won by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the local elections of March 31.

Hakkari Governor İdris Akbıyık has been appointed trustee to take over the administration of the city council.

The democratically elected co-mayor, Cihan Karaman, was imprisoned following his detention on October 15.

The HDP-run municipalities of Nusaybin (a district of Mardin) and Yüksekova (a district of Hakkari) have also been usurped by the Turkish government earlier today, with the elected mayors being sent to prison and replaced by trustees.

Following the appointment of trustees to Amed, Van and Mardin metropolitan municipalities on August 19, it was the time of Karayazı and Kulp municipalities.
