HDP’s Buldan: There can be no peace process with the AKP

"The AKP is going through a process of disintegration. It is in the hands of the democratic opposition to accelerate the AKP's demise. Let's speed up this process," declared HDP chairwoman Pervin Buldan in Antalya.

Pervin Buldan, co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) attended the congress of the HDP's provincial association in Antalya and declared in a speech that the ruling party AKP had lost the last vestige of its legitimacy.

"The state is in the hands of the AKP, as is the judiciary. The army is in its service and the media is under its control. Those who refuse to obey this government are denied the right to life. If there is one force that still opposes and fights this government, it is the HDP," said Pervin Buldan.

In her speech, the HDP chairwoman addressed current issues on the agenda in Turkey. One of them is the "Canal Istanbul" project, which the Turkish head of state Erdoğan wants to push through against a major protest movement. The canal planned by the Turkish government for shipping is to run parallel to the Bosporus and connect the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara. Pervin Buldan said that the AKP government wants to secure its hold on power with this major project, which is to be completed in 2023 on the centenary of Turkey's founding.

Commenting on the invasion of Rojava that started on October 9, the HDP politician said that although the military operation was designed to destroy the Kurdish achievements in the region, in reality it was a losing deal for all the peoples of Turkey: "The AKP disregards the existence of the Kurdish people and wants to destroy all positive developments for the Kurds so that the Kurdish people do not gain an independent status under any circumstances. However, the losers of this war are the people of Turkey. They are losing through the economic crisis and mothers are losing their children. And now soldiers are to be sent to Libya as well. The AKP wants to secure its power with these operations.”

Pervin Buldan described the Roboski massacre, in which 34 villagers were killed eight years ago in a bombardment by the Turkish air force, as Turkey's "bleeding wound". She concluded by saying: "You cannot have a peace process with the AKP. Real peace can only be achieved with Kurds, Turks and Arabs together. The AKP is experiencing a process of disintegration and will dissolve shortly. Today it is already divided into three parts. We see a government power whose members accuse and contradict each other. It is in the hands of the democratic opposition to speed up the AKP's disintegration. Let's accelerate this process!"

At the congress, Remziye Zengin and Muhsin Taşar were re-elected as the co-chairs of the provincial association.
