The Central Executive Board of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) released a statement offering condolences for sociologist Immanuel Wallerstein.

The statement said the following;

“We are deeply saddened with the passing of the pre-eminent historical sociologist Immanuel Wallerstein. As the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), we express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the international community of intellectuals.

Wallerstein's scholarship has tremendously changed our understanding of the past and present forms of capitalism, imperial colonialism, history, and social sciences. In his life and work, he always brought together inspiring thinking and an uncompromising commitment to justice.

His legacy serves as an invaluable example for us to learn and to change the world in the present turbulent times structured by multiple forms of injustice and inequality.

We will continue embracing the legacy of this great world intellectual in our struggles for justice, equality, and freedom. And we promise to keep contributing our share to the creation of a world free of injustice that he so has much desired and worked for.”
