HDP Temelli: Let's unite on the struggle for democracy!

HDP Co-Chair Sezai Temelli reacted harshly to the seizure of the municipalities and said: "Power has lost its legitimacy." Temelli called on the public, parties and institutions to "unite in the struggle for democracy".

HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli, held a press conference about the seizure of the municipalities of Amed, Van and Mardin after his party's extraordinary Central Executive Board (MYK) at the HDP headquarters in Ankara.

Temelli said they woke up today to find yet another black page in Turkey's history. "The AKP-MHP alliance - said Temelli - and the Erdogan regime in Turkey added a new page to the history of this land. On 19 August Turkey lived a new civilian coup. When we got up this morning, three of ours metropolitan mayors were dismissed and replaced by trustees. This ruling politician has become unable to govern the country without a trustee."

Temelli added that "the August 19 coup, the civil coup, is in fact the continuation of the September 12 coup tradition. For a long time we lived under an OHAL (State of Emergency) regime. We had already seen trustees appointed to the municipalities, the liquidation of democratic politics. Now they continue to impose an implicit OHAL regime."

Temelli continued: "No matter what they do, we have raised the struggle for democracy and peace in the period of the state of emergency, and today we will continue the same struggle with determination. They ignored the law during the state of emergency, they ignored their own laws tried to liquidate the politics of democratic politics. With the help of the trustees, the economy of the region collapsed."

We are all under attack!

Temelli said that "three of our mayors were dismissed. But this attack is not only aimed at the HDP. This attack is an attack on the peoples of Turkey. The mayors dismissed are those of   Mardin, Diyarbakir and Van, but the attack is also against the mayors of Trabzon, Bursa, Agadir, Ankara. That's why we are calling on everyone in Turkey to take the initiative in favor of full democracy. Let us stand side by side against this mentality, which ignores the will of the people. Let us meet again as in the past on the basis of democratic politics."
