HDP withdraws from parliamentary commission

The HDP has withdrawn from a Parliamentary Investigation Commission into four former ministers involved in the 17 December corruption inquiry in protest at a ban on press coverage.

On Wednesday a media ban was introduced preventing reporting of the working of the Parliamentary Commission into allegations of corruption, a ban that was widely ignored yesterday.

Following the introduction of the ban, the HDP withdrew from the commission. The HDP's Group Chair Pervin Buldan explained the reason for withdrawing from the commission.

"We withdrew in order not to be party to an exoneration. The work of the commission has not been healthy. Due to the attitude of the commission chairman there is no point in members of the opposition remaining there. We are therefore withdrawing from the commission.”
