HEP Amed Provincial chair Vedat Aydın commemorated

Vedat Aydın, the Amed Provincial Chair of the People's Labor Party (HEP), who was killed by the Turkish state, was commemorated at his grave.

Vedat Aydın, who was killed by Turkish state forces in Amed on July 5, 1991, was remembered at his grave on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. The visit to Aydın’s grave in the Mardinkapı Cemetery in the Yenişehir district was attended by representatives of the Association for Solidarity, Unity, and Culture with Families Who Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER), Aydın’s family, Halide Türkoğlu, Spokesperson of the Women’s Assembly of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), co-chairs of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) provincial organization, municipal co-mayors, and many others.

Veysi Aydın, Vedat Aydın’s brother, said, “We have repeatedly wished that the holiday would lead to honorable peace. A process is currently underway, and we want this process to evolve into peace. We have come to this point through the efforts of our martyrs. Their struggle will guide us.”

DEM Party Amed Provincial co-chair Abbas Şahin said: "Those who pave the way for living together set an example for the world. We will continue to support the path opened by Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and to spread the idea of a democratic society."

Lastly, DEM Party Women’s Assembly Spokesperson Halide Türkoğlu stated that the commemoration was not only an act of remembrance but also an act of seeking accountability. She said the assassination of Vedat Aydın marked the beginning of unsolved political murders, adding: "This struggle will be crowned with peace. That is the struggle we are pursuing. These sacrifices will enable the construction of a democratic society."

The commemoration ended with the placing of carnations on Aydın’s grave.
