The indictment regarding the Hopa protest in Ankara on May 31st consisted scandalous accusations. Accusing BDP Mersin Deputy Ertugrul Kürkçü of being a ‘terrorist’, the indictment charged 28 defendants with ‘membership to an armed terror organization”. The ‘books’ seized by the police were shown as “armed digital documents and publications of the organization”.
The indictment, approved by Ankara 11th High Criminal Court, demanded up to 30 years imprisonment sentence for 28 persons, among whom 22 had already been arrested.
It was reported that 90 books, 87 magazines, 7 posters, leaflets, pictures of revolutionist leaders Mahir Çayan, Deniz Gezmiþ, Hüseyin Aslan and Yusuf Aslan, pushi and coats, looking like those worn commonly by revolutionist leaders in 80’s, were seized by police in the houses of demonstrators most of whom are students.
Among the books considered as 'organizational evidence' are the Communist Manifesto and Principles of Communism (Marx and Engels), Civil war in France (Marx) and Basic Principles of Philosophy (Georges Politzer).
The indictment said the followings regarding the Kýzýldere operation where the leader of the Turkey's People's Liberation Party-Front (THKP-C) Mahir Çayan and his comrades were killed; “Three captive foreign radar technicians were killed, a terrorist named Ertuðrul Kürkçü was captured alive.”
Basing on the seized publications and documents, the indictment said that; “The conclusion has been reached that the suspects were involved in continuous and various acts of violence defined under terror and they are members of an organization for committing crimes within the knowledge and system of the organization.”
It was also attention-grabbing that the prosecutor, at the end of the indictment, made a note that a sample of the indictment was also sent to the universities and institutions that the suspects are connected with. The prosecutor’s note was commented as a demand for the dismissal of university students from the universities they study at.
