Þemdinli was like a ghost town this morning, say reports coming from the "last city of Europe" as the mayor Sedat Tore calls it, underlining the position on the border.
Four civilians and two security members died and at least ten people were injured as a result of heavy firefights which erupted last night after a number of military, gendarmerie and police buildings were attacked by Kurdish guerrillas.
Among the civilians, a 14 years old teenager was hit by police or army gunfire. Osman Erbaþ was at a wedding party when he was killed. His brother is former BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) president Reþit Erbaþ who confirmed the security forces were shooting at random.
Helicopters were sent to the area as reinforcements during the clashes.
On a separate incident, it has been revealed that the house of Seferi Yýlmaz was hit by a rocket fired by security forces.
Yýlmaz's bookstore Umut (Hope) was bombed on 9 November 2005. Three people were arrested as suspects, two of them gendarmerie officers and one a former PKK member turned informant. One person died as the result of the explosion.
