The command of the People's Defense Center (HSM) published the guerrilla's annual balance sheet for 2024.

The statement said: "The Kurdish people and the Kurdistan Freedom Movement entered 2024 with a fighting spirit and continued their resistance against the enemy's incessant attacks throughout the year.

The Turkish state had one goal: the total annihilation of the Kurdish people in the year marking the centenary of the Republic (2023). The AK-/MHP government planned to expand the genocide against the Kurdish people to other regions, namely to the old borders of the Misak-ı Milli (Ottoman National Pact), hoping to become a hegemonic power in the region in line with its neo-Ottoman dreams.

The AKP-MHP regime has used the most advanced war technology at its disposal; tactical nuclear bombs, prohibited explosives and chemical weapons banned under international law. It carried out massacres against our civilian population and intensified the system of oppression and torture in prisons."

The HSM underlined that "the Kurdish people have developed a relentless resistance to counter these attacks both in Kurdistan and abroad. The Kurdish people have expanded their resistance to defend their existence, to secure their freedom and to achieve their main goal, i.e. the freedom of Rêber Apo and the freedom of Kurdistan."

"Turkey failed to achieve its goal in North Kurdistan"

In 2024, the Turkish army continued its attacks in North Kurdistan, but, the statement said, "it could not achieve its goal of eliminating our guerrillas. The war in 2024 showed very clearly that the tactical and strategic attacks by our guerrillas thwarted the enemy's plans. This result was also due to the attitude of self-sacrifice shown by commanders such as Edessa Cejna in Dersîm, Bêrîtan Nurhak Çiya, Herekol Şiyar, Brûsk Kato, Benda Amed and Serhat Jêhat in Botan, Mehmet Cûdî and Zerdeşt Suruç in Mêrdîn, Şêxmûs Malazgirt and Berwar Dersîm in Serhed, Hebûn Pîro and Botan Osyan in Amed and Zagros Cûdî in Van.

In 2024, 36 of our comrades fell as martyrs while fighting in North Kurdistan.”

"Successful resistance in the Medya Defense Areas"

The statement added that "the Turkish occupation army repeatedly attacked the Medya Defense Areas, often with the open support of the KDP and the Iraqi government. In 2024, commanders Alan Milazgîr, Orhan Cihat Bingöl, Şiyar Afrin, Dr. Sara Tolhildan, Zîlan Amed, Hevrê Çiya, Şervan Varto, Canşêr Şêrawa, Ekîn Rodî, Tufan Koçer, Devrim Botan, Xebat Türkmen, Piling Germiyan, Abu Leyla Şehîd, Sema Cuya Çewlîk, Ezîz Mûsil, Asmîn Seyît, Cemal Dêrezor, Kurtay Şahin, Hogir Merwan as well as 98 of our comrades fell as martyrs in the Medya Defense Areas. Our tunnel system stopped the enemy, and our guerrillas defended those areas and created opportunities to attack the enemy."

134 guerrillas fell as martyrs

The statement said that “the identities of 134 fallen comrades were confirmed for the year 2024. 36 of them fell as martyrs in North Kurdistan and 98 in the Medya Defense Areas.”

478 soldiers killed, including 9 commanders

The statement added that "during the attacks launched by the Turkish army in 2024, a total of 478 soldiers, including nine commanders of various ranks, were killed in the Medya Defense Areas."

The HSM said that the guerrillas announced during the Newroz celebration their "ability to neutralize armed drones. The guerrillas announced that they had shot down a total of 15 armed drones of all kinds since 13 February 2023. The shootings were documented in a number of videos. Our air defense forces continued these actions in 2024, shooting down an AKSUNGUR drone over Qandil on 27 May, an ANKA drone over Asos on 6 June, and an AKSUNGUR drone over Asos on 12 July."

"TUSAŞ action hit the enemy hard"

The statement said that "the autonomous action carried out by comrades Asya Ali and Rojger Hêlîn from the Immortal Battalion hit the enemy hard. They attacked the TUSAŞ branch in Ankara on 23 October. This historic action hit the heart of the production of the deadly machines used against our forces and the Kurdish people.

2024 has shown that the Kurdistan freedom guerrillas have the ability to operate anywhere, from North Kurdistan to the Medya Defense Areas, from the mountains to big cities."
