Human Rights Week to commence in Roboskî
Human Rights organisations in the Kurdish region, first and foremost in Amed, will mark the start of Human Rights Week (10-17 December) in Roboskî village, in the Uludere district of Şırnak province, where 34 people were killed by Turkish war planes on 28 December 2011.
There will also be a variety of activities during the week in Amed, jointly organised by the Amed branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD), MAZLUMDER, the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) and the Amed Bar Association, with the theme being "peace".
A march for human rights is to be held in Roboskî village on Tuesday 10 December, with many organisations expected to attend, culminating at the cemetery where the victims are buried, when a press statement will be read out.
March for Justice
On 11 December a march will take place to draw attention to the disappeared and unresolved murders, under the slogan: "For peace - find the missing, try the perpetrators, may justice be served". The march will start at 15.30 at Dağkapı and end at Saraykapı, which was once the site of the JİTEM base, where many people disappeared.
Panel on language, assimilation and trauma
On 14 December a panel on “language, assimilation and trauma will take place at the Bağlar Municipal Conference Hall, starting at 13.00. Subjects to be discussed include "Education without the mother tongue" and "the judicial dimension of assimilation".
163 minute sit-down protest for sick prisoners
The final activity in Human Rights Week will be a 163 minute sit-down protest to highlight the plight of 163 severely ill prisoners, which will take place in front of the E Type Closed Prison in the city at 14.00. The aim of the protest is to call for the release of all sick prisoners. Banners, posters and billboards at various places in the city will publicise these activities.
