Kurds living in Kassel and neighboring cities are on an indefinite alternating hunger strike to protest the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan and show solidarity with the resistance led by Leyla Guven.
Dilan Baysal, Imam Ali Ates, Omer Bagdur and Cemal Kobane, who are in the first group on the 4th day of the hunger strike, spoke about the protest.
Hunger striker Dilan Baysal said the protest is a self-criticism and added that great prices are paid as the process demanding historic responsibility continues. Baysal said Leyla Guven’s protest has reminded everybody of their responsibilities and added that everybody should get involved in the process with a comradely self-criticism.
Hunger striker Imam Ali Ates said the state wants to break the Kurdish freedom struggle and the Kurds’ dignified resistance by depriving the Kurdish people of their Leader, and added that Leyla Guven spread the resistance she started with great sacrifice, and that there should be solidarity with the protests everywhere in the world.
Cemal Kobane said the reason he joined the protest is to stand against the strict isolation and added that they will be protesting until the isolation is broken. Kobane said, “We are calling on all Kurdish people in Europe to support these protests.”
Omer Bagdur said they want to lend their voice to the hunger strikers who spread everywhere, and stressed that they will do all they can to break the isolation. Bagdur added: “We must be on the streets everywhere in Europe and grow the resistance.”
