Hunger strike in Strasbourg reached day 27

Most people joined the great march in Paris today, so hunger strikers were visited by less people than usual. Among them today were family members.

On 17 December, an indefinite hunger strike has been undertaken by 14 people in Strasbourg.

The hunger strikers are carrying out their action at the Democratic Kurdish Community Center. They are asking the end of the isolation regime imposed on Abdullah Öcalan, and they are urging the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to go to Imralı and meet with the Kurdish leader.

Among the hunger strikers are the co-chair of the Kurdish Democratic Society Congress-Europe (KCDK-E) Yüksel Koç, HDP former deputy Dilek Öcalan and politician Mustafa Sarıkaya. Despite the deterioration in their health conditions, the activists are determined to continue their hunger strike until isolation is lifted.

Connection with meeting in Sydney

On the 27th day of the hunger strike in Strasbourg, visits were reduced as people joined the great march to condemn the 9 January massacre in Paris.

Indeed, Dilek Öcalan and Mustafa Sarikaya, went to Paris to join the march.

At the same time hunger striker Yüksel Koç, attended a public meeting in Sydney, Australia, via teleconference.

The meeting was organized to support Leyla Güven and the other hunger strikers by the Sydney Democratic Kurdish Community Center.

Many Australian friends and internationalists attended the meeting, while Yüksel Koç made a speech explaining the actions.

Speaking to the audience Yüksel Koç welcomed the internationalist friends in Australia and pointed out that Öcalan's paradigm affected many sectors all around the world.

Koç stated that the 21st century will be the century of Kurds and underlined that they could work for solution should they end isolation. The activist reminded that they are on the 27th day of their fast, while Leyla Guven is on her 66th day and added that “everywhere should be turned into scenes of resistance”.

Underlining that the dirty fascist politics will be frustrated by resistance, Yüksel Koç called for the spread of the resistance and actions in all areas.

Families visited the hunger strikers

Most people joined the great march in Paris today, so hunger strikers were visited by less people than usual. Among them today were family members. The family of Kerem Solhan from Draguignan in southern France was in Strasbourg.

The Solhan family who support all the hunger strikers, said they believe that the resistance will succeed.

Family members who demanded the CPT to act quickly recalled that Leyla Guven's health condition is worsening by the day.
