Kurdish activist Mehmet Ali Koçak went on hunger strike in Geneva on 20 February.

He has joined the hunger strike resistance led by DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven to demand the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The President of the Geneva Section of the Swiss Labor Party, Eniline Alexander, visited Mehmet Ali Koçak.

The Kurdish activist is carrying out his hunger strike either in the tent put up in front of the Geneva UN or in the Kurdish Community Center in Geneva.

Eniline Alexander expressed solidarity with the hunger strikers and pledged to follow the issue closely and to forward the demand of the hunger strikers.

Koçak talked to ANF on the 31st day of his hunger strike.

"The torch left by Mazlum is carried by Leyla today"

Koçak congratulated the Kurdish people and their friend on Newroz and reminded that the torch left by Mazlum Doğan today is carried by Leyla Güven and Zülküf Gezen.

Koçak said that the action of Zülküf Gezen was meaningful and should be understood well. “I offer my condolences to his family. Comrade Zülküf is the martyr of all the people of Kurdistan. We will follow his legacy and we will make his ideals true.”

Koçak emphasized that the Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan had given the hunger strikers great strength and morale. “The spirit of resistance in Amed and Serhat is the indication that our people will never bow to tyrants. We believe that we will break the isolation with the strength we receive from our people.”

Stressing that he has already left a month of hunger strike behind him, Koçak said: “We have made a promise to our people. We are resisting thanks to the courage and strength we get from our people, from our leader. Once again we repeat that promise: we will continue our action until isolation is lifted. We believe we will destroy fascism, we will end isolation. Success will be ours and our people’s!”
