Hunger strikers delegation met CPT in Strasbourg

The hunger strike in Strasbourg, France, aimed at ending the isolation regime imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan has reached day 25.

The hunger strike in Strasbourg was launched by 14 people in solidarity with HDP deputy Leyla Guven who has been fasting in Amed prison since 7 November and Nasir Yagiz who has been fasting in Hewler since 17 December.

The hunger strike is indefinite and among the hunger strikers is also former HDP deputy Dilek Öcalan. The activists are getting strong support from Kurds and European people.

Visitors from Germany

While the health condition of the hunger strikers in the center of the Democratic Kurdish Community Center at 7 Rue de la Broque in Strasbourg has begun to give signs of deterioration, visitors are coming to give morale and support.

Activists were visited People's Assembly members as well as by dozens of people from the German cities of Münster, Osnabrück, Bielefeld, Essen and Freiburg on Wednesday.

In the speeches made during the visit, the importance of the hunger strike was emphasized, and it was pointed out that the isolation imposed on Öcalan is part of the destruction concept implemented on the Kurdish people.

The hunger strikers said that protests should be developed throughout Europe, especially in Germany, and added that both the isolation and the AKP-MHP fascism will be defeated.

Among those visiting the hunger strikers were also Central Anatolian Kurds. Those visiting on behalf of the Platform of the Central Anatolian Kurds (Europe), said Kurds in exile who are against isolation should also join the protests.

Application to CPT

Activists called on the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), the only institution authorized to visit Öcalan, to take immediate action.

A three-person delegation consisting of activists Mustafa Sarıkaya, Dilek Öcalan and Yüksel Koç, applied to CPT together with Fayik Yağızay, representative of the HDP in Europe.

A file on the actions of the hunger strike and their health condition and demands was sent to officials of the CPT.

A letter written by Nasir Yagiz, who is on hunger strike in Hewler, was also presented to the CPT.

After the meeting, Mustafa Sarikaya told Yeni Özgür Politika newspaper that the CPT had told them that they met with Turkey Desk Chief Michael Neurauter.
