Kurds who launched a hunger strike on April 1 to demand an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan held a demonstration in front of the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm on the second day.
Hunger strike activists went to the parliament before the session where the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan was to be discussed and held banners and signs that read “Solidarity with hunger strikers - end isolation free Ocalan”, photographs of Leyla Guven and HDP logos.
The passersby were informed about the aggravated isolation imposed upon Ocalan and the hunger strikes.
One hunger striker called out Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom as she walked by and reminded her of the hunger strikes in Turkey, Kurdistan and Europe. Wallstrom said they were just about to discuss the matter in the parliament.
An old man and his daughter who were tourists in Sweden spoke to the ANF and said they were surprised to see hunger strikers and HDP signs in front of the parliament.
The man said there is an intense atmosphere of oppression in the country but HDP’s election strategy has caused important setbacks for the AKP government and Erdogan.
A group of hunger strikers went to Expressen, the second biggest newspaper in Sweden, and informed the workers there about the ongoing hunger strikes in Turkey, asking them to publish articles on the matter.
Another group of hunger strikers attended a panel discussion held in the Swedish Institute along with Kurdish people and allies to discuss the local elections in Turkey.
Theater actress Serpil Inanc spoke in the panel discussion and called on participants to be conscious of the hunger strikes and the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.
Hunger strikers passed out flyers of the statement released by the Swedish Democratic Kurdish Social Center in the panel discussion.
