Hüseyin Türeli, who was murdered in South Kurdistan, where he lived in exile, was taken to his hometown, Batman, to be buried.
Hüseyin Türeli was forced to go into exile in South Kurdistan because of the persecution he suffered in Turkey. He was murdered at the “Family Mall” Shopping Center in Duhok on 17 April.
Türeli's remains were being taken from the Xabur Border Gate on Tuesday evening, and were stopped by the Turkish police on the Cizre-Botan road.
The remains were eventually taken to Sirnak on the grounds that no autopsy had been performed, and were given to the family on Wednesday.
The police blockaded the cemetery in Batman city centre and declared that no one except family members would be admitted to the funeral. Only people with the surname Türel were admitted. Hundreds of people waited outside the cemetery.
