'If we hadn’t been late the bomb would have gone off during the meeting’

HDP party worker Ahmet Akçay talked about the bomb blast at the party’s Adana office, where 6 people, one seriously, were injured.

HDP party worker Ahmet Akçay talked about the bomb blast at the party’s Adana office, where 6 people, one seriously, were injured. Akçay said they were about to have a meeting in the district office, adding: “We were late. If we hadn’t started the meeting 15 minutes late the bomb would have gone off during the meeting.”

Ahmet Akçay, who was slightly injured in the blast, said he had been at a meeting in the provincial office from 8.20 until 9.30, and that after that meeting he had gone downstairs, when there had been something like an earthquake. “I didn’t know what was happening. My arm and back were injured. The explosion was in the district co-chair’s office. That’s where our colleagues were injured,” he added. Akçay said: "This was a planned attack. If we had started our meeting at 9.45 instead of 10 the bomb would have gone off during the meeting. I assume the bomb was planted there previously. If the bomb had gone off during the meeting it would have been a lot worse. We will not be incited and will continue our campaign,” he added.

'The office was suddenly turned upside down’

HDP Seyhan district co-chair Suzan Kılıç said that the blast occurred when they were in the co-chairs’ office. She said: "The office was suddenly turned upside down. I was injured and I can’t hear at the moment. My co-chair Hüseyin Beyaz is in hospital and there are concerns that his injuries are life-threatening. İbrahim Yakut is also in intensive care, but is out of danger. We will not be provoked. We will give our answer at the elections.”
