The İmralı delegation has made an important statement regarding the stage reached in the "Process of Resolution". The delegation said that due to the campaign of discrediting carried out by the President there was currently no possibility of serious negotiations taking place. The statement said: "There is a need to determine the status of Mr Öcalan. Unless this happens we will not permit you to play with the future of a people in a rough, irresponsible way.”
HDP Group chairs İdris Baluken and Pervin Buldan and HDP MP and Imrali delegation spokesperson Sırrı Süreyya Önder issued a statement regarding the state of the process of resolution in the HDP room in the Turkish parliament.
Önder said they were also holding the meeting on behalf of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The headings of the statement read out by Önder are as follows:
'There is a table, but it has lost its validity!’
"The ruling bloc is split: on one side is the President, on the other, the government. There are also lots of internal splits. We hoped that when the President said: ‘there is no table, there is no Kurdish problem’, the Prime Minister would disagree with him. When he says ‘there is no table and no parties’ this is not true. There are chairs around a table but the chairs are empty. The Dolmabahçe accord was made in order to reach a solution, but the table has now lost its validity on account of the President’s negative campaign.”
'Mr Öcalan's efforts will go down in history’
“We reached agreement with the government over third party participation, but the President has equated this with treason.
“We demand that the government respond to the seriousness of Mr Öcalan's proposals with a similar gravity. What he has done for peace will go down in history. For 12 years he has been thinking what he can do for this country in his confined space. The progress made should not be sacrificed for election gain.”
'Mr Öcalan's status should be determined and announced’
The statement stressed the importance of determining and making public Mr Öcalan's status. It made clear that unless this happened they would not permit the toying with the future of a people in a rough, irresponsible way. The statement also called for international forces to become involved in the process.
The statement read out by Sırrı Süreyya Önder also said that the headings submitted by Mr Öcalan and declared at Dolmabahçe had received broad public support. He said they would not allow this to be sacrificed.
'This is our final warning!'
The statement concluded with the following: “We are issuing our final warning to the government. The path to follow is to grasp peace more firmly, not to abandon it. We are inviting the government to make a re-evaluation and we advise them that it is necessary to retain an awareness of the seriousness of the situation.”
