In prison for delivering Kurdish papers

Yasemin Yılmaz wrote a letter from Mardin E Type prison where she is held since early March. In the letter she tells of her ordeal. She was arrested while delivering Kurdish dailies Azadiye Welat and Özgür Gündem in Mazıdağı district. Her husband Nizamettin Yılmaz was also detained as a result of a police operation in the same day.

Two-months pregnant Yasemin Yılmaz who suffered a miscarriage while in custody at Mardin Police Headquarters told the followings, "I was attacked while being taken into custody and I suffered a miscarriage because of police officers who kicked me on the belly and subjected me to physcological torture  while under interrogation. Then I was taken to Mardin State Hospital where I first learned that I was having a miscarriage. Despite the warning of doctors, police officers took me back to the prison and put me in a cell".

Yılmaz wrote that she had filed a criminal complaint against the police officers who- she says- were however justified by the public prosecutor who said that she may have had a miscarriage because of the pills she took or because of the food she ate before detention or while in prison.

Yılmaz said that she had objected to the public prosecutor for justfiying police officers instead of investigating them and their attitude towards her.

She added that she would defend her rights till the end and apply to the ECHR to demand the punishment of police officers she was tortured by.
