Indictments asking record jail sentences for HDP co-chairs approved

Indictments have been approved in the scope of the investigation launched by Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office against HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ who both are jailed since November 4.
In the indictment, 43 to 142 year prison sentence is asked for Demirtaş who is accused of “administrating a terrorist organization”, “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization”, “opposing the law on meetings and demonstrations”, “openly inciting people to animosity and enmity”, “instigating people to disobey laws”, “provoking people to disobey laws” and “praising crime and criminal”.
On the other hand, the indictment prepared by Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor against HDP co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ, has also been approved by Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court.
In the indictment, in which 8 separate summaries of proceedings were combined together, the prosecutor asked 28,5 to 82,5 year prison sentence for Yüksekdağ on charges of “opposing the law on meetings and demonstrations”, “openly inciting people to disobey laws” and “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization” due to speeches and statements she made at various dates.
Both indictment against HDP co-chairs consist of popular riots across the country on 6-8 October 2014 to protest the ISIS aggression on Kobanê.
