International Women's Delegation in Amed

International Women's Delegation visited the Justice Vigil activists, MED TUHAD-FED, ÖHD and the Medical Chamber in Amed (Diyarbakır).

The 7-member International Women's Delegation, including lawyers, parliamentarians, ecologists and representatives of civil society organisations from various European countries, is visiting Amed (Diyarbakır) after a series of meetings in Istanbul.

The delegation held talks with Asrın Law Office, Human Rights Association (İHD), Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV), Saturday Mothers, Women Strong Together, Thousands of Aysel Women's Initiative and Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) in Istanbul.

The delegationpaid the first visit in Amed to the Justice Vigil held in the central Bağlar district in support of the hunger strikes in prisons.

The mothers joining the vigil informed the delegation about the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, who has not been heard from for nearly 3 years, and the social incidents caused by the isolation. The families at the vigil stated that the way to a solution and peace passes through İmralı, an island prison in the Sea of Marmara where Öcalan is held, called for pressure to be put on European organisations to ensure Abdullah Öcalan's freedom.

The delegation then met with the co-chairs and board members of MED TUHAD-FED (Federation of Law and Solidarity Associations for the Families of Detainees and Convicts).

Here, members of the federation talked to the delegation about the rights violations, pressure, isolation in prisons. The delegation took notes and stated that they would do their best against the rights violations and torture in prisons.

After the visit to MED TUHAD-FED, the delegation visited the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), where they were welcomed by Ekin Yeter, Co-Chair of ÖHD, and other members of the association. ÖHD members told the delegation about the legal deficiencies and the ongoing isolation in İmralı.

The delegation then visited MEBYA-DER (Association for Assistance, Solidarity and Culture with Families Who Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations). MEBYA-DER members informed the delegation about the torture inflicted on bodies of fallen guerrillas, attacks on cemeteries and crackdowns during burials.

The delegation finally visited the the Medical Chamber.
