Human rights defender Muhammad Kaboodvand and blog writer Hussein Maleki in Iran prison have been on a hunger strike since May.

Muhammad Kaboodvand is reported to have started a hunger strike to protest against the denial of permission for him to meet his ill child on 26 May. Kaboodvand was arrested and sentenced to 11 years in prison for reporting news on human rights violations in Kurdistan. It is also reported that the human rights defender was sent to Evin Prison because of his strike action.

Kurdish blog writer Hussein Maleki who was arrested and sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2009 has reportedly been on a hunger strike for 17 days to protest against the denial of treatment for his disease. Maleki’s state of health is reported to be deteriorating because of his strike action.

In a statement about the most recent hunger strikes, Iranian Organization for International Human Rights reported that constant right violations are lived in the country in respect to the treatment of ill prisoners, and pointed out that treatment opportunities are used to make prisoners bow to the pressures.
