According to Rojnews, the Iraqi Interior Minister Abdulamir Shimeri and his Iranian counterpart Ahmed Vahidi met at the Zerbatiye Border Gate in Wasit province in the south of Iraq. After the meeting, the two ministers held a joint press conference.
Shimeri said: "We received the Iranian Minister of Interior and his accompanying delegation at the Zerbatiye Border Gate in Wasit province, at the headquarters of the 3rd Border Guard Regional Command and held a meeting."
Noting that the governors of Basra and Wasit, the Head of the Border Gates Administration and senior officials of the two countries also attended the meeting, Minister Şimeri said that the purpose of the meeting was to increase the level of coordination and cooperation, especially in international border control.
"We agreed to open a joint border post between the two countries in order to coordinate the exchange of information between the two sides and to control the visitor's return," Şimeri said.
