The Occupational Health and Workers' Assembly Security (ISIG) has published the first 5-month report on murders in the workplace. According to the report, 646 workers lost their lives in occupational homicides in the first 5 months of 2022. 43 of those who lost their lives in occupational homicides were women.
The distribution of occupational homicides in the first 5 months of 2022 according to their causes was described as follows:
“125 workers died due to crushing; 124 workers due to traffic and service accidents; 88 workers due to a fall from height; 81 workers due to heart attack, brain bleeding; 41 workers due to Covid-19; 35 workers due to suicide; 32 workers due to poisoning, suffocation; 28 workers due to violence; 26 workers due to electric shock; 24 workers due to explosion, burning; 11 workers due to object crash, fall; 4 workers due to cut, rupture; 27 workers lost their lives due to other reasons.”
According to the report, 38 refugee/migrant workers lost their lives in the first 5 months of 2022. The distribution of these workers by country of origin is as follows: “16 workers were from Syria; 8 from Afghanistan; 4 from Uzbekistan; 3 from Iran; and 1 from each of these countries, Belorussia, Indonesia, Russia, Pakistan, Serbia, Turkmenistan and Ukraine.
The report said that the city where the most occupational homicides occurred was Istanbul with 96 deaths, followed by Kocaeli with 27 deaths and Antalya and Muğla with 24 deaths each.
