A court in Istanbul rejected the objection to Kanal Istanbul filed by the TMMOB (Turkish Chamber of Engineers and Architects Union).
A court in Istanbul rejected the objection to Kanal Istanbul filed by the TMMOB (Turkish Chamber of Engineers and Architects Union).
Nine professional chambers linked to the Turkish Chamber of Engineers and Architects Union (TMMOB) had filed a lawsuit in 2018 demanding the cancelation of the protocol signed by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor of Istanbul for the realisation of Kanal Istanbul.
Now, Istanbul 8th Administration had ruled to dismiss the lawsuit.
In the lawsuit, the chambers argued that the subject of the protocol was in violation of all international conventions, the Constitution, the Environmental Plan, and added that agricultural areas and terrestrial ecosystem would be irreversibly affected as well as natural and archaeological protected areas and natural parks which would face destruction.
Istanbul 8th Administrative Court unanimously rejected the lawsuit filed for the annulment of the protocol.
